Jean (Hans) Arp

German-French, 1886 - 1966

Jean (Hans) Arp, was a modernist sculptor, poet and painter. He has been strongly associated with Dada movement in Zurich with artists such as Tristan Tzara and Marcel Janco. He went on to become an important contribuor to magazines such as Merz and De Stijl. In 1954 he received the Grand Prize for Sculpture at the Venice Biennale and 4 years later a retrospective of his work was held at the Museum of Modern Art in New York.
